Grab Fear by the Throat

We Christians know very well how to mean to follow Jesus. We know how to go to church, study, and say our prayers. We know how to do safe and how to follow without going overboard. We mean well, but freeze up when out in the wilderness and the burning bush of God's calling meets face to face with our fear. Er...I mean, with us. It meets with face to face with us. But really it meets our fears.

But God, they won't like me.

But God, they won't believe you spoke to me.

But God, my pant size is too big.

But God, they might know that I'm a fraud.

But God, I don't have the skills.

But God, the kids are still small.

But God, the mortgage.

But God, the people will think the wrong thing.

But God, my butt is too big.

All of which is saying: But God, I am afraid.

Kelly Balarie's new book (as see on the Today Show) is all about fighting that fear. It is about the blocks that we all have to being an effective tool for Jesus. There is a need for this book, because these gut-wrenching fears are really that common.

I have something to tell you, friends. On the other side of our fears is our calling. On the other side of your fear is your life.

Your destiny.

Your dreams.

Your purpose. All the things you've been dreaming of are on the other side of this screaming alarm called fear. This clanging siren blaring in your ears and the blood pumping in your fists are there to protect you, but they can also keep you from the very best thing. God's plan. That is what should be frightening.

That we can go our whole lives living this soggy, water-logged existence, never daring to step out into the waters. We dream of sailing the seas of the unknown, all the while we can't walk out unto the stage of our own life. Why? We should be afraid of missing the real thing in lieu of the shadow show some of us call life.

Sometimes we're ashamed. We know somewhere deep inside that God is wooing us out to where He is. Standing on the waters in the midst of the storm. Calming the seas with His voice. Beckoning us to not be scared, that He will take hold of our hand if we should sink. Focus.

Grab that fear, and instead of letting it work against you, twist it and make it work for your benefit. Be so afraid of missing out on God's plan that everything pales like the moon shining against the sun. Be fearful that you will displease almighty God. That is something to be scared of. Not because He will be angry (He loves you),but because He has plans for you that will have eternal benefits.

Where God is calling can be someplace scary. It can cause you to face your greatest fears. So many people think the adventure ends when we get saved, but in actuality, it is just beginning. Do you know what He is calling you to today? Have you been brave enough to ask?

Do you want to accomplish what you were put on this earth to do? Do you want to one day look back on your life knowing that you left many things untested, with pathways still unblazed, fears still unconquered, and fields unplowed? Or would you rather peel out of this life, tires screeching, a trail of smoke behind you as you take to the sky toward heaven?

Can you say heck yeah!

Your God is with you. You only live this life once. Make it the best it can be and do all the things you were created to do. Go on. With God you do all things. Grab fear by the throat.
