The Bravest Thing You'll Ever Do

This post is about shutting out the voices and listening to God. Don't think that's the bravest thing you could ever do? Read on.

There are a plethora of voices out there demanding equal attention for our time, talents, and resources. Shutting them out means you can better hear that still small voice.

Are you brave enough to accept all that that means?

It means aligning your life with what God thinks and not running according to the ways of the world. It means swimming upstream and wearing a target on your back for the devil to take aim at. But it also means knowing that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.

It's drowning out all the shoulds and all the should nots. It's leaving off the phony expectations and the empty traditions. It's stepping out into deep waters and into the unknown. Its facing the lion's den and going in unto Pharaoh to ask him to let your people go. It's forming the organization, getting involved in politics, making the phone call and doing the thing. It's seasons of dryness, seasons of plenty and a harvest delayed. It's a bounty lie you've never know and it's peace that surpasses all understanding.

It's the opposite of a life mundane, but is a life that will yield thirty, sixty or a hundred times what was sown. It is life and rewards eternal. It is a life that matters and activity that counts. It's filtering out all he drama. It's about weeding out the garden of your heart so that the word of God can truly take root and be fruitful.

It's eschewing the patterns of this world.

It's being free.

The Bible says that in certain hearts the word of God will take root but that the weeds of the cares of this live and the deceitfulness of riches will choke it out. Could it be that we're choking out the word with our big houses, cars, titles and things? That our search for the American dream has left the garden empty of what is good? Or do we have a form of godliness that lacks power because the word is being drowned out?

Are we listening to screaming of the television, the clanging of the latest fad, and struggling to keeping up with the Jonseses? All the while, the voices scream louder and louder look at me! look at me! look at me! When really all we need to do is to come away awhile with the One who knows us and who made us for a purpose.

Look. The creator of the world planned us from the very start and He's waited a very long time for us to take shape and to be born. We've only got one shot at this thing, so we may as well do it right. In all the hustle and bustle amid the things trying to get our attention, we may miss the very thing that needs our attention.

Life will be hard anyway you slice it and no matter what you do, so it may as well be hard for the right reasons. Let's shut it all out and do the things that need doing. Don't worry. Jesus will help you. And it'l be the bravest thing you'll ever do.
